Oratino is a small hilltop Italian municipality (comune) in the Province of Campobasso in the Italian region of Molise. Oratino is located 7 km west of Campobasso. Near by villages and municipalities include Busso, Campobasso, Castropignano and Ripalimosani. Approximately 1400 people reside in Oratino and the town covers an area of 18.0 km. in Southern Italy. Oratino evokes great love and emotion from descendents of this town today in North America, especially in the Cleveland, Ohio area where many descendents and immigrants still live and celebrate their roots today. The Print is a view of Oratino as it rises 780 meters and dominates great part of the valley of the Biferno River as it has done since feudal times.
Dr. Michael A. Grandillo, of Tiffin, Ohio, commissioned the accomplished artist, Diane Kidd of New Hampshire, to paint a watercolor landscape of his ancestral home in 2006. In 2007, Dr. Grandillo, under the supervision of Diane Kidd, approved a limited first edition printing of 100 Giclée prints to be made available to art collectors and fellow Oratinese.
The Grandillo family has played a prominent role in Oratino history and preserving its legacy in the United States, especially in the Cleveland, Ohio greater metropolitan area. Giuseppe Grandillo (Dr. Grandillo’s great-grandfather) was the first Oratinese to emigrate to America in 1880. He and his descendents helped ensuing Oratinese emigrate to Cleveland and a prosperous new life. However, love for their fellow Oratinese and their ancestral hometown never waned.
Producing this limited edition print was a time-consuming, exacting and collaborative effort among the artist, a publisher and a printer. The choice of paper, printing technique, the size of the edition, the consistent quality of each print in this edition was closely monitored. This process allowed Dr.Grandillo to share Diane Kidd’s painting with those who love Oratino.
A Giclée is a recognized and collectible category of fine art. “Giclée” (zhee-clay) is a French term roughly meaning "spray" of which describes the digital printing process. No fine art ink printmaking method has ever caused so much excitement as the Giclée.
Giclée printing made its debut in 1985 and incorporates the technology of digital printing, whereby microscopic ink droplets are precisely positioned onto a surface. Giclée prints offer incredible saturation, depth of color, and a beautifully finished print that captures the essence of the artist’s intent. Many contemporary and influential artists have adopted this new, high-quality printing technique.
The 17” x 24” Giclée is printed on Somerset velvet paper. It is treated with three coats of Premier Art Shield spray providing a permanence rating of 166 years under glass and 200 years with UV glass. It is recommended that these prints be matted with 100% cotton archival mats and backers and framed with UV glass.
The first edition print, Oratino, is signed by the artist and the individual prints are numbered. The numbers on the print denote the individual piece number in the edition over the total edition size. For example, 10/100 is the 10th print in a series of 100.
